Bio.
Stephanie Scarlata holds her Studio Art degree from the University of Maryland and is a certified K-12 Art Teacher. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally, and pieces are permanently on display in Hobart, Tasmania. She has experience as an art gallery assistant as well as teaching in a K-8 school. She’s had over 10 years experience working one-on-one with people of various artistic backgrounds and demographics including small children, teens, and dementia patients. Stephanie is currently teaching adults at MD Hall for the Creative Arts as well as running private art mentorships.
Stephanie is most interested in the natural environment and people. She specializes in large scale abstract painting and portraiture. She draws on elements from the outdoors for her abstracts and the stories behind faces for her portraits. Her approach to her art is much like her approach to life, planned with room for spontaneity and exploration. In addition to other visual artists, her greatest inspiration comes from those who are steadfast in realizing their dreams.
Artist Statement.
I paint because it is simultaneously freeing and grounding, and it serves as a vehicle to connect with those around me. As a teenager, lasting impressions were made by Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Annie Leibovitz, and Steve McCurry for their respective strengths — strong marks, rich colors, ability to portray the heart of someone, and find unexpected beauty — and their strengths, I hope, will one day be permanent assets of mine.
As long as there is a story to be told, great works of art has the potential to be made. Getting to know people and illustrating a part of their story is a great honor as is seeing portraits and paintings become a lasting fixture in the homes of friends and clients. Creating artwork as well as encouraging others to practice their art making is where my passion lies. I will always advocate for those who have a strong conviction to pursue the arts and follow something a little outside the norm.In most of her pieces,
